I am first and foremost a scrapbooker (Click on any picture to zoom in). I started my first scrapbook the '90s while in high school. Back then I just wanted a place to hold all my photos that I was taking or collecting from friends. So I got a binder that had 8 1/2 x 11 sticky sheets with plastic covers over them. Then I set out cutting each photo into different shapes and fitting them all on the sticky 8.5x11.

In college I bought my first 12x12 album. It was DRUM ROLL PLEASE...... a white and black zebra fur bound book. A similar style to the creative memories pages went inside and was bound together with these plastic strips that fed through the metal staples on the pages. But to make it better, I bought not one but TWO of these albums.

I then discovered PATTERN SCISSORS and I thought they were the bees knees. I was cropping my photos in all kinds of shapes with these fancy little scissors that probably did more damage to the edges of my photos then to actually cut them. Still I learned that there was a little trick to these bastards and was able to use them after a little practice.

As my "skill" (lol what else would I call it? My Disaster) progressed I discovered pattern paper and frames.

For a long time I didn't cut the paper, OOOH NOOOO, I placed the whole 12x12 paper down and just laid my photos over it. I did learn to add photo mats which really helped. And I went accent crazy to help fill in the monotonous.

Luckily, this phase passed after several years. My very next scrapbook I decided needed to have different color papers on each page and thus I entered the "Advance" level of scrapbooking. Haha, sorry I am totally laughing at myself.

As you can see I managed to add 2-3 papers to each page. It wasn't a huge jump but an important stepping stone!

Once I realized how awesome I could combine papers together I became a PAPER HORDER. Who wouldn't? I was buying it by the reams. I had grand plans... don't we all?! I was also very quickly going broke from the accents aisle at the local scrapbooking store. I needed a $5 accent for every page. Man did that add up fast. I needed a way to create my own but I didn't want them to look cheesy.

This entire time I was ANTI-STAMPING - "WHAT? What?" you ask. It's true. My mom collected wooden stamps and would always want to stamp but I hated it. My images never came out clean, or evenly inked, or they had that partial border around it from the edge of the stamp. You all know what I am talking about. But one product completely changed the way I scrapbooked and saved my pocket book!

Then in 2009 STAMPING WAS BORN AGAIN! Well at least for me. I was invited to a Close To My Heart (CTMH) party where this consultant pulled out a slim envelope with some clear stamps on them. As she talked I kept thinking "yes but how do you hold that little thin piece of plastic without getting your fingers full of ink". Then she pulled out a clear block and stuck the two together like magic.

I used the stamps and was like "HALLELUJAH! IT'S A MIRACLE, I CAN STAMP!" And I was instantly hooked! I suddenly had to have hundreds of stamps so I could create my own accents instead of buying those $5 accents for every page.

The how-to programscompletely changed my layouts from "advanced" to "professional". They showed me how to cut SEVERAL different papers to put together and how to create amazing layouts.

It wasn't long after that I decided to become a consultant for CTMH. My artwork has jumped ahead light years since joining. I so shake my head at early scrapbooks and how I thought I was amazing. I have benefited from CTMH's amazing consultant training program where I cannot tell you the amount of fantastic projects and creative they have. I learned to use so many products and tools.

But the best thing is... I continue to grow, stamp, and scrapbook everyday. There is so much to learn and I accept the challenge.

Technique Swap - Bakers Twine

This month's team swap was to use baker's twine. I loved all the cards the ladies created (at the bottom of this post). Here are the set by step instructions to do mine (inspired by Julie Day).

First you'll need to cut your paper. I used Smoothie cardstock at 5 1/4 x 4 and Kraft Paper at 5 x 3 3/4 on a Daisy White card base 5 1/2 x 4 1/4.

Next adhere the layers so they center in the middle. I love to use our Memories Bonding Glue for this.

Next I used our ruler and marker to create some faux stitching.

You'll want to stamp your sentiment in a dark color to show up on the Kraft Paper well.

Then add a bunch of Glue Dots to your card and start by swirling the bakers twine around and round.

Continue to add dots as needed and make your lollipop larger. I used about 72" of baker's twine.

When you have the size lollipop you want add a lollipop stick to the bottom. I found these at Michael Craft Store and cut them in half. I used the Mini Glue Dots to attach.

Last thing is to add a little bow. I simply tied a quick know and trimmed. Here are all the cards made by the team.

So to begin let's cover the invitations I sent out. They were printed on Mohawk Skytone Vellum Parchment Paper Aged Shade. I used the following Text:

I then used a wax seal we bought from Universal Theme Parks to finish off the invite. When using a wax seal you have to put 20 extra cents on the invite to mail it.

Getting into Character

We spent a lot of time preparing for the party but the pay off the Twin's finally got to dress up. My mom had purchased these skirts for them and all though they didn't match exactly there were a good find. I bought the ties from a Halloween store and the shirts I ordered from amazon.

My outfit was meant to resemble Professor McGonagall but by using what I already had in my drawers: a part of a Halloween costume, a broom skirt, a cape from LARP days, and the hat we bought from Amazon.

Party Decor

Since the Party invite said to meet at Platform 9 3/4 we definitely needed a sign. I bought the red foam poster board from Michaels. I then used my Cricut to cut a large white circle, the black letters, and the Yellow Words. I printed an image of the seal too to add. If you have the Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge, email me and I will give you the Craft Room CCV file to load and cut from to save you some designing time :)

This is actually the second year we have done this party so we had a lot of things we could use again. We had bought a sorting hat from Amazon last year along with the poster of Serious Black.

Putting up a few signs is a cheap and easy way to transform your home. This idea was found off Pinterest.

I created a Hogwarts entry banner with the CTMH Chipboard Creations

This banner we had bought from Universal Theme Parks and hung it on the front door.

We also hung banners to create the Great Hall effect. These banners were actually ordered years ago for our wedding.

We had found these glitter balls at the dollar bins at Target and added them to the decor as well. We also had signs that blocked off the house like "Forbidden Forest" for closed off bedrooms and "Beware Diagonally" for hallways. We also set up a chess set with the sign "Wizard's Chess" on it.

Sorting Ceremony & House Cup

As the children arrived we placed them all in a house and let the sorting hat figure it out.

I then placed labels on the kid's back that had their name and house.

If they won any games or behaved well that house got extra pebbles. If a child behaved poorly they lost pebbles.

While we waiting for all the kids to get sorted the children blew bubbles in the bedroom. I have found that the wedding bubbles are great bubble blowers for kids and are somewhat wand shaped. Plus if they spill it is only a little.

We added a glowing solution to the bubbles that was found a Michaels (not pictured here). It was really cool. I then decorated the display a little with handmade brooms (the idea was from pinterest) and some sparkly sticks.

Ollivander's Wand Shop

One of the really cool things at Universal Theme Parks is all the window displays in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

We live in a unique home that has windows facing the patio from the inside so we were able to create some window effects for Ollivander's Wand Shop.

We needed a place to display some Quidditch stuff since what's a harry potter party without a little Quidditch. The Wand shop seemed like a good choice.

I had created some quills for the kids to use in the next activity. They were very simple. I bought the large feathers from Michaels and then cut the tips off and inserted the inside of pens. Very easy to do and they looked amazing.

My husband and I had bought some Official Wands from Universal Theme Parks so we displayed those along with the wands I created for the kids. These were created with wooden dowels and handles I found at Michaels. I then painted them for Unicorn Hair (white), Pheonix Feather (red), or Dragon Heartstring (black).

The sign I found online and printed in the same paper as the invitations.

Each child was called over and allowed to choose a wand - or have the wand choose him or her.

We then let the children and adults try to guess the "Bertie Botts Every Flavor Jelly Bean". We set up shot glasses of different types and had slips of paper to fill out.

Everyone then got a quill and got to try each of the flavors.

We got some great answers that ranged from "Ear Wax" (of course) to "Sunshine"! Kids have great imaginations.

I think if we do this again though it would be better to create little baggies of the beans (like we did for the party favors that we sent home) and staple them to the slip of paper so it is easier to pass out to each player. The party favor label was an image I found online and printed out to glue to the bags.

Potions Class

This part of the party was definitely the most fun. We started out by examining some of the contents of the ingredients like "Dried Bat Brains" or "Frog Livers".

The containers were taken from the kitchen and had coffee filters that had been stained with coffee added to the tops. I then placed distressed labels on the jars using the same paper as the invites.

Next each child got to pick a special potion. I found these bottles at Michaels in the wedding section.

They could choose between "Felix Felicis" (also called "'Liquid Luck'", makes the drinker lucky for a period of time, during which everything they attempt will be successful. It is meant to be used sparingly, however, as it causes giddiness, recklessness, and dangerous overconfidence if taken in excess.)

The invisibility potion, A Truth Serum (a potion that can be used to gain the truth from anyone. Veritaserum is the most powerful Truth Serum there is. It is a colorless, water-like fluid. Three drops is enough to force the drinker to reveal the deepest secrets.)

or Polyjuice Potion (a very complicated potion that allows the drinker to assume the form of someone else. While it can account for both age and gender, It cannot be used for a human to take an animal form or for a half-breed to assume human form.)

I then added different color Kool Aid to each along with Glitter Sprinkles, and Sprite. The glitter swirled in the liquid while the crystals fell to the bottom. A very cool looking potion. My children LOVED them!

And I think a few other kids too!

The children then go to pick some "Frog Turds" to place on their plate.

Then were given little test tubes of "Elixir of Life" (water) so they could add to the frog poop.

These osmosis cubes absorbed the water and for a temporary time resembled crystals. I found this in the kid's science area at Michaels.

Next we created some bubbly brews by adding "Tantacular Acid" (Vinegar), "Elixir of Life" (Water), "Blue Moon Potion" (Soap), and "Powdered Root of Acid Elves" (Baking Soda) to the cauldrons and stirring.

Make sure to add the powder or the vinegar last.

Finally we emptied the mess into a giant bucket and then let the kids put two sea monkey tablets into their bowl. We moved the to the next room while my husband added hot water. When the kids came back they had surprise insects in their bowls.

Magical Creatures

We created a sign and added a spider.

Then we set up some fairies on one side of the "hut"

We had toads and a Rooster to symbolize a Hippogriff.

We added different books about magical creatures.

And even had some chains set out.

We played a game with the "Dragon Eggs" similar to hot potato. The kids all stood in a circle and I played Harry Potter music. When the music stopped the child holding the egg stepped out and kept the egg. A new egg was added to the circle and the game continued until all the kids had an egg (the last being a golden egg). Inside the eggs were jelly beans, chocolate, exploding candies, or a free ticket to Honeydukes. For large groups or young children it would have been better to send several eggs around each time so the game would end sooner.

Honeydukes

On our patio we set up the candy shop. Complete with sign.

We also had the gift bags all set up for the children too.

We had Welsh's Originals as Butterbeer Nuggets

Malt Eggs as Dragon Eggs

Gummyworms as Flobberworms

Handmade dipped chocolate covered pretzel as Chocolate Wands

Also I tried the white chocolate covered Twizzlers which did not go over as well. The Twizzlers dried out and were too hard to chew.

These candies were found at the dollar store and were a great buy. We added the Honeydukes label to each one.

I covered these Jelly Belly beans with the label I found online.

I even found card images and printed them to put in with the kid's gift bags.

Each frog had a label added to the bag. These labels were just pictures of the box I found online and then cut out.

Divination Class

We set up the girls' table with cover and hanging beads and a sign.

I set out one of the glitter balls we found at the dollar store as well as some tea leaves and cups.

We showed the kids how to add a little bit of leaves and then some water.

Lily's looked like a bat. A few others were a half-moon, a pitch fork, a boat, and worms.

A Feast

Finally it was time to eat! Bring out the food! We made mac & cheese and served it out of the cauldron pot.

We cooked chicken legs and corn on the cob in the oven. We also had a variety of appetizers including Spider Deviled Eggs, and Cornish Pixie Puffs (cheese balls).

We also made butterbeer and created these cup labels to make it more authentic.

The cake idea was found on pinterest. My mom did the icing to make it look like an open book.

The girls were so excited!

And another year down. Happy 3rd Birthday!

Winner of House Cup & Gift Bags

Each gift bag had a diploma of completion. An owl post package filled with chocolate kisses, a pack of Bertie Bott's Jelly Beans, a Chocolate frog, exploding candies, their wand, their bubbles, their drinkable potion, their crystals, their sponge insects, and a thank you card. Before the children left they could fill their bags to the brim with more Honeydukes sweets.

The owl post packages I created with Kraft Paper and the pillow box share from the Art Philosophy Cartridge (5"). I then used some CTMH stamps to decorate the boxes.

Slytherin and Ravenclaw each had a child throw a tantrum which cost them house cup points. Even though Slytherin got the golden egg, Jack from Gryffindor answered some potion questions correctly, and Tamaya & Tova from Ravenclaw answered the jelly bean game the best is was Hufflepuff who was awarded the house cup - the second year in a row now! Lily says "What gives mom?"

Gathering Cards

Distress the card base and the B&T paper. Stamp the silhouette image and mat this image. Attach the ribbon using glue dots. Sponge daub the flutter with blush ink. Add to the card using 3D foam tape. Top it off with 2 sparkles.

Today I am showcasing Just Blooms Paper Flowers and White & Clear Buttons. The paper I used was Mischief, Animals Cookie and Notebook (all retired now).

I added some silhouette stamping from the Childhood Portrait Stamp Set and some flourishes. I also added some left over black spotted ribbon.

I created a cluster of flowers and buttons after stamping a flourish and using is as my guide where to place the flowers.

In the upper corner of the right page I added a card and decorated is with flourish, Chipboard Heart, a flower, and a button. Lastly I used a few stickease letters from my Wings L1 kit.

Victory Card Class

CARD 1: New Pattern

1.    Stamp the flourish image twice with Chocolate ink on card base so it will peek out behind the papers when you attach them;
2.    Stamp “my hero” with Barn Red ink on top portion of 4" × 1" Bamboo Grid B&T Sponge edges of cardstock, B&T papers, and accent shapes with Chocolate ink.
3.    Assemble cards according the Originals patterns - When assembling piece 1A & 1D leave some room at the top (do not put adhesive to add glue dots later for the hemp to slide under).
4.    Add Hemp by folding in half 12" of hemp and sliding through star. Adhere under piece 1A & 1D.
5.    Add star accent with 4" of hemp wrapped around and tied. Add stud to top.

CARD 2: First Impressions™

6.    Adhere green cardstock to base.
7.    Stamp the following on 2" × 4" Bamboo cardstock accent: shield with Outdoor Denim ink, “best of times” with Chocolate ink, and “my hero” with Outdoor Denim ink. Trim around shield and make two banners out of sentiments.
8.    Stamp background image with Barn Red ink on 1 3/4" × 2 1/4" Barn Red cardstock
9.    Trim sentiment into banner shape.
10.    Sponge the Dimensional Element arrow with desert sand.
11.    Sponge edges of cardstock, B&T papers, and accent shapes with Chocolate ink.
12.    Assemble card - Add Shield and banner with 3D tape. Add 3 small brass studs.

CARD 3: Combination™

13.    Add blue cardstock to the card base but leave room at the top to add hemp underneath with glue dots.
14.    Sponge edges of cardstock, B&T papers, and accent shapes with Chocolate ink.
15.    Stamp “best of times” with Chocolate ink on 3" × 2" Chocolate B&T.
16.    Stamp star with Barn Red ink on corrugated star shape.
17.    Assemble card. Add corrugated stars and studs

CARD 4: Balance It Out™

18.    Sponge edges of cardstock, B&T papers, and accent shapes with Chocolate ink.
19.    Stamp flourish with Barn Red ink on 2 3/4" × 1 1/2" Barn Red cardstock.
20.    Stamp “built tough” with Chocolate ink on scalloped shape.
21.    Wrap piece C with 12" hemp and assemble card. Use 3D foam tape on piece C and scalloped shape

CARD 5: Pretty Simple

22. Add Chocolate cardstock to card base.
23. Stamp flourish with Chocolate ink on 1 1/4" × 2" Desert Sand cardstock.

24.    Stamp flourish with Outdoor Denim ink on 2" × 2" Outdoor Denim cardstock.
25.    Stamp ticket with Barn Red ink on bamboo 2"x 4" cardstock.
26.    Create a banner from the sentiment. Trim ticket
27.    Sponge edges of cardstock, B&T papers, and accent shapes with Chocolate ink.
28.    Assemble card. Wrap 12" of hemp around ticket and add with 3D foam tape.

Creating Your 1st Layout

Pictures - First, choose the photo(s) for your layout. You do not need to use every picture you take, only those that best represent the event or memory you wish to capture.
Theme or Concept - Second, look at the pictures and see what theme or concept you want your layout to have. The theme can be anything and is essentially the subject of the page: Christmas, new baby, love, friendship, traditions, etc. Think about the story you want to tell (journaling) and a title for your layout.
Color Scheme - Third, picking the right paper colors and patterns can seem daunting until you learn a few tricks. The easiest way to choose is to pull color inspiration right from your photos. Then check out the current papers we carry along with products that will work with that combination. In addition to choosing colors based on the colors in your photos, you might also choose your color scheme based on the theme (such as pastel blue for a baby boy page), or even mood (such as a whimsical and colorful pattern for a light-hearted laughter page).
Embellishments - Next, embellishments like stickease, charms, brads, buttons and ribbons to name a few, can help unify the photos, paper and journaling. They can be simple or elaborate. Once again, look at your photos and concept for inspiration such as using fabric flowers that mimic a child’s dress in the focal photograph. Mini Medleys help to give you a variety without breaking the bank.
Unity - The last step is to put it all together. If layout design is a challenge for you, you can work with a layout sketch or “floorplan” to help you decide where to place each element on your page. Our How-To Programs are PERFECT for this as they have already taken into account basic design principles such as focal point, repetition, balance and unity.

I used the stamp from the Lucy Workshop On The Go. This is a stamp set that coordinates with the Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge. Super easy to create accents. Find the correct image on the cricut and set the size to the same size listed on the carrier sheet. After cutting the image then stamp on it. This stamp set is a base and shade so I stamped the shade, the outline, and the center color. Super fast!

Additional Instructions: To use the rub ons place your paper under the rub on. You may need to cut it out first. Then press hard with the popsicle stick. Rub over the image until it has stuck to your paper. You can slowly peel the rub on carrier sheet away to see if the whole image has transferred. If not then rub again, peel to peak until the entire image has transferred over.

I then added the bitty pearls over the flowers and other images to complete the look. A great way to do this is to use the piercing tool to transfer the pearls onto your project.

Cut the journaling strips and distress them to break up the look.

For the title I used the Cricut cartridge and simply distressed the letters before gluing them on.

Making V-day Crafts with the Kids

First we worked on creating 2 cards for their friends. The girls peeled the foam stickers and stuck them on. I helped them with the order.

Next they really wanted to paint something so I agreed.

Using the back of some shinniny scrapbooking paper they created amazing water color art. This is Lily.

Next I placed it in the Cricut and cut the heart shape box from it.

I removed and saved the scraps for future projects.

I folded the box for the girls. The shimmery side of the paper is on the inside of the heart.

I added some foam hearts we had let over from the cards we made.

Lastly we added chocolates, tissue paper and our cards.

Here are some Cricut Tips: If you have the new White Mats (not the old green ones) you probably have noticed they are less sticky. To make them work better rough it up with your scrapper (or side of a credit card). You can also try washing it a little with our cleaner to re-fresh the stickiness. Provocraft plans to stop making the old green ones as people complained they were too sticky. So if you see them in the store, snatch a few up. Amazon does carry the mats and tools.

Sweet Surprise Cards

How to assemble the candy cup in your new SweetSurprises Card

When assembled based on the instructions in your kit, yourcandy cup will be attached to the inside of your card and show through thefront of your card. HOWEVER, I did not attach the cups to the inside of cards because I wanted the recipient to be able to eat the candy without destroying the card. Below I show you what I did instead.

First remove the white protective circle toexpose the adhesive on your candy cup and place it on the front of the card. Fill your candycup. Do not over-fill! Candy should not exceed the top of thecup.

Next I used the center chipboard circle from the punch out as a backing to the cup. I taped the circle to the back of the cup. I then punched a 2" scallop punch of white that I stamped "Open Me" on.

Attach the chipboard shape to the outside of the card using dots or glue. The chipboard shape will reinforce the candy cup. Attach the flag with 3D foam tape.

You are now ready toattach the large sticker on the inside of the card.

Some of the stickers I used to decorate other cards so it left the center of the sticker blank. I punched a 1 1/4" circle of white cardstock to put in the middle of the sticker for the inside. I stamped my additional sentiments or images here to help fill in the look of the card.

Completeyour cards using the photo instructions included in your kit. You will have extra stickers. I used 3D foam tape to add them to various places on the cards as well as on the envelopes.

The last thing you will need to do is add the ribbon. Thread it through the flap and the card front to secure it closed.

Here are all the cards closed and open. Note the 1st card is done the way the instructions had intended with the cup on the INSIDE of the card.

Technique Swap: Glittery

My team does a technique swap every month and this month was anything that was glittery or shinny. This is the project I created:

This cute card is easy to make. You'll need some Believe Paper, Red Ribbon, the 2" Scallop Punch, the Corner Rounder, Bitty Sparkles, and Craft Sticks.

Start by punching out a scallop.

Then cut your Believe Paper to 5 1/2 x 4. Cut a second White Daisy Cardstock piece the same. Score them in the middle and fold. Use the corner of the scallop punch to take a "bite" out of the corner of the Believe paper. Then glue the white inside the card.

Now you can see the white cardstock. Use the corner rounder to round the other 3 corners. Use the scallop punch to "bite" the white but make sure it is 1/4" from the Believe paper.

Last you'll need to stamp your sentiment and add bitty sparkles. A great way to add them is to use your piercing tool to pick them up and place them.

How-To Create A Ribbon Pin

To create this ribbon pin you'll need a 2" scallop punch or a cricut. You'll also need some wide grosgrain ribbon, pearl paint, milepost stars, and shimmer brads.

1. Punch your base.

2. Paint on the pearl paint to make it shinny. Let dry completely.

3. Using some scrap strips (1" x 12") fold it to create ruffles but do it at an angle so as you continue it will naturally curve into a circle. You'll need to fold at least two. However you can do more and layer them.

4. Next add some re-inker to the pearl paint and paint your milepost stars. Allow to dry completely.

5. Put the ruffles on top the base with glue dots or liquid glass. Fold a 5" piece of ribbon in half and attach to the back with glue dots. Add the painted star on top and secure with a shimmer brad.

I submitted 4 type of events to the SPA events this year. Here is a sneak peek at one of the events: Creating Realistic Paper Flowers.

This flower was also submitted to teach at CTMH Convention for Extravaganza.

I plan to do a card making class where we will focus on techniques.

Cricut Tips: January 2012

Techniques & Tips

So I have been using my Art Philosophy Cartridge a lot! I found that if you are using the craft room to design in (a free program you download from cricut.com) that you can change 1 of the dimensions instead of changing the whole size proportionately. What this allows you to do is create oblong shapes for example. So I used heart shape 1 and change the height so it was longer and I was able to use this shape with a stamp I already had but was not typically a criut coordinate stamp set. I hope this is making sense. Another thing I was able to do was create a postage stamp mat by making the width and height perfect for a 5 x 7 photo instead of the standard porportions on the cartridge.

This layout was an idea I got from another CTMH Consultant, Shari Froemming. I put it on the Kraft Cardstock instead and added some sheets of Bella for some more leopard paper.

I stamped and colored in my images with the watercolor brush. Last I added some Black Hemp.

Let's get started. Today I am showcasing 2 layouts I got out of the Magic Book.

The first one I used two paper packs that many of you wouldn't think would go well together: Mischief and Bliss. I used the "Top Hat" pattern from the Magic Book (pg 114). Click any image to zoom in.

The stamping was done with the "Rock The Block" special that is running until the end of the month. The letters were cut from the CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge.

I used some Miracle Irresistible (ON SALE NOW for $1) that I inked with cocoa ink and some Dimensional Elements (inked in Parchment). I added a few wood buttons too.

The second layout is a very close copy of the "Magician's Choice" pattern from page 116 of the Magic Book. I used the Cherry O paper and the Bliss again.I added some drawn on stitching around the edges.

I used up a few Just Blooms Paper Flowers and Clear Buttons (which I put B&T paper behind to accent). I added some Floss and Bitty Pearls too.

I used up some Blush Ribbon and some White Ricrac ribbon.

I created the leaves on this flower by using the 1 1/4" Circle Punch and punching a folded strip of sweet leaf cardstock. I then inked it.

Last I added a Twitterpated Dimensional Element and a photo clip from the Olive Mini Medley.

Using Up My Stash - Mayberry

This January I am using up my stash! So I'm going through all paper pack and supplies and creating projects to clear out the old and make room for the better!

Here I've used my left over Mayberry Paper (THIS PAPER PACK IS ON SALE FOR $2!- BUY NOW) with the stickease and added some buttons and ribbon to create a little banner. I added some Hollyhock ribbon as well. The color is slightly different but with such a colorful layout I thought it went well together.

It's All About the 70's Blog Hop

So I was born in the early 80s and completely missed the 70's. But I created this layout with the theme in mind using an assortment of bright colors. The fabric looking paper is the new CTMH Stella paper that you can purchase starting Feb 1st here. The accents are canvas which always reminds me of things found in my grandmother's house which I swear was never decorated again after the mid 70s.

I also added the lace crochet flowers and glitter buttons. I thought both of these were great additions to really top off the 70's look and feel.

I have yet to put some photos on as I will need to find the perfect ones :) But click on any photo to zoom in.

Technique Blog Hop: Original Argyle

First step you'll need to either cut some diamond shapes or use your Cricut. I selected the triangle card on page 49. <Font Layer><Banner4> cut at 1"

Next you will cut your paper. I used the Magic Book pg 50 for this pattern: Spellbound but changed out the paper to the Typeset Paper Pack.

I distressed all the papers and my diamonds in desert sand ink using a sponge dauber.

Next adhere your paper and photos as well as the diamonds.

Using a pencil and ruler find the middle of each diamond and draw a line through them to create the "X"

Then on my sewing machine in a striaght stitch I sewed over the pencil lines. You will need to start and stop the stitch. However instead of finishing the stitch off with a back and forth motion you will just leave it raw at the end. When I moved between "X"s I did not cut the thread but just moved to the next location to sew. When completely done sewing I cut the thread and then immediately placed acid-free tape over the back where the thread was; securing it all in place. No need to tie knots or finish the stitch off. Once secured erase the pencil lines.

As you can see I choose two different design layouts for the accents as featured in the pattern.

Next I added my title. I used the letters on the cricut set at 2". Some I popped up with 3D foam tape but others I did not to create texture.

On the second page I added two flip flaps so I could put a total of 6 photos instead of just 2. I stamped the treble from the A Melody stamp set on the layout directly. I also stamped some of the notes on Colonial White and cut them out to apply with 3D tape. I added a stamped guitar as well.

Finishing touches included basic buttons and Chipboard Brackets that I sponged to match.

Using Up My Stash - Wonderland

I got the ideas for these layouts from other CTMH Consultants. I tweaked a few things as I was just using what I had lying around but I love how our community shares projects! They are made using the Wonderland Paper

This layout I used the giant Dimensional Letters and covered them in Glitz Gel.

In this layout I used the Edge Distresser to get a fuzzy edge. I left notes on my post-it notes to do the same to the photos that I'll add to the other side as well as the journaling.

This little book I made using the rest of my Elemental Paper Pack. The idea came from the bonus project in the Workshop On The Go Kit. But instead of using a board book I just used my Kraft Cards. I added the Journaling Spots and envelopes to use the rest of those up too.

Using Up My Stash - Elemental Part 1

This January I am using up my stash! So I'm going through all paper pack and supplies and creating projects to clear out the old and make room for the better!

So first I need to start out explaining that I bought the Elemental Paper Pack even though it seemed boring to me because a lot of other Consultants were raving about how it was their favorite. But at last it sat in my studio for about 6 months before I touched it.

After completing these projects though I can completely understand why it became an instant hit with consultants. The color choices really make it easy to match any paper. The designs are simple and don't deter. It was very simple to add embellishments that complimented with the psatle colors or the primary ones.

In the above layout I added some sparkle since it is a new years eve picture from last year and I felt it needed a little extra glam. The circles are Dimensional Elements called Compliments. I really liked how they bring emphasis to the photo.

In this layout I used the more primary colors for an Elmo birthday party. I added a flip flap on the left because I needed to squeeze in two more photos.

In this layout I used a passport booklet that we received at this event to add even more photos creating a mini album. I added the Flutters as accents. They are easily my favorite addition to any project.

Using Up My Stash - Twitterpated

This January I am using up my stash! So I'm going through all paper pack and supplies and creating projects to clear out the old and make room for the better!

I used my Twitterpated paper up and a bunch of Dimensional Elements (all the circle accents in the second layout).

When popping up stickease with 3D foam tape firstapply baby powder to the back of the stickease to remove the adhesive. Shakeoff all excess powder. After assembling the layout with photos and stickease,add the Button Dimensional Elements with either Glue Dots or Blue Glue.

For this card I trimmed the remaining “JOY” lettersfrom the stickease sheet. Using a large Dimensional element as the “O” with theoutline stickease carefully around the edges.

Fold the long B&T (piece A) at 4 ¼” and 1”. This piece willwrap around the card and does not need to be adhered. Piece B the sorbet pieceis flush with the 4 x 4 ¼” section of piece A on the bottom. Piece C is adhereontop piece B about 1 ¼” from the bottom so that when you close the 1” flappiece C appears centered on piece B. Add the dimensional elements with 3D foamtape so you can wrap twine, hemp, or floss around the dimensional elements tosecure the wrap closed. Distress as desired.

Using Up My Stash - Blog Hop

This January I am using up my stash! So I'm going through all paper pack and supplies and creating projects to clear out the old and make room for the better!

Today I am showcasing the Sonoma Paper and the Heirloom Accessories. The heirloom accessories are resin flowers and charms. The pack comes with 6 flowers and 6 charms. I originally thought I would use them to create jewelry but then they just sat there in the drawer (sound familiar??).

I didn't have very much of the Sonoma paper left but I wanted to use up the rest of it. I saw on Lisa Stenz's blog this gorgeous layout and wanted to copy it. I made a few changes since I didn't have all the same supplies and added the heirloom accessories too.

So first I needed to use my Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge and cut the large die cut. I saved the remainder of the paper for the layout below. I distressed all the edges in Cocoa and adhered it to the Smokey Plum sheet of cardstock.

Next I cut from the cartridge 3 flowers in Amethyst, Smokey Plum, and Colonial White (If you are making the layout below too cut some extra flowers). I inked them and rolled them. I punched some leaves from Olive Cardstock and dry embossed the veins on the back then inked with Olive Ink on the front.

I stamped some journaling spots and added the photo mats. Last I added the cocoa ribbon across the page with a little ruffling on the right side. I placed the pewter frame over a scrap of colonial white just below the ribbon ruffles. I added the heirloom accessories to the upper left of the photos and the charm that dangled below the paper flowers.

Using the same process and style I created the below layout as well. You'll notice the negative space of the cricut cut from above on the right page. I created similar photo mats too. I had some left over stickease and zipstrips that I added to the page as well. I used a ribbon slide along with some more pewter accessories.

In this layout I used my Sophia Stickease and Paper pack. I used a lot of my left over sparkles up on this layout as you can see. I added them along borders as well as on top of the stickease. (Click the image to zoom)

In the second layout I added some cricut cut flowers I had laying around. I added the pearls to the middle and put a few on the stickease as well.

In these layouts I used my Lucky Stickease and paper up. You can see I cropped the bingo cards to make them look like they were tucked in the middle strip. I also created a clustter of accents on the left page where the tickets are stacked. I added some of the milepost shapes I had left over like the arrow. In the second layout I added some of the flutters that I lightly distressed in desert sand and topped them off with some pearls.

In this layout I combined the Magic Moment stickease with the Stardust paper pack. I choose them because they had similar colors. I used ALL of my window charms up by placing them over the circular stickease. Woohoo!!

You can see how I used the window charms on the photos to bring out their faces. I also placed them randomly on the layout as well as over accents.

I made these layouts by combining the Blue Ribbon paper with the Blue Majestic Stickease. I think they go very well together. I also added in some of the blue tri-color ribbon as well as some pewter embellishments.

Thank you for helping to make 2011 a successful year for my Close to my Heart business. As grateful as I am for your business, I am so much more thankful for your friendship! Close to my Heart has provided so many wonderful opportunities for me over the past few years, but the friendships I have made are truly priceless.

Technique Swap - Liquid Applique

My team does a technique swap every month and this month was liquid applique. Below I show you how it works and the project I did with it.

Start by applying the liquid applique (only $3.95 - Buy Now). You can choose to heat it immediately or wait until it is dry. If you wait the fluffy part stays fluffier where if you heat immediately it decreases a little.

For my purposes I heated immediately.

You can start to see as you heat it the liquid applique starts to popcorn out.

Keep heating until all the ivory color has turned white and popped out.

For my project I painted a thin layer of the liquid applique across the bottom portion on a card. I stamped green pines above it.

Then I heated the entire surface. It creates a rubbery feel and slightly 3D. I left the lines from the brush in the streaks so when it puffs up these areas are not 3D creating texture on the card.

Next I added a thick line at the base of the trees.

Using my brush I spread it ever so slightly. Creating more of a stucco appearance.

Lastly I heated it.

I added some "snow" to the tree edges as well on various trees.

Lastly I matted on a New England Ivy Card Base.

GLITTER Scallop Clear Cards

I absolutely love the Sonoma Paper. I wanted to showcase as much as I could of it so I decided to use the clear cards we carry.

First stamp your image for the front of the card.

Next I drew for the butterfly's moment. I then poked the holes for the stitching.

I sewed the card in a straight stitch.

Then you'll want to distress all your paper. I used the smokey plum.

Remove the clear protector from both the front and the back of the Clear Card

I adhered the 1st piece to the very back of the card.

On the inside I added the lower piece and the Zipstrip trim.

I added the matting for the front to the INSIDE of the front of the card. I was careful to place the dots more towards the middle so they would not be seen when I added the top piece.

Lastly I added the top piece and some ricrac ribbon.

To create the butterflies I mixed pearl paint with re-inker.

Next I painted the butterflies and sprinkled with prisma glitter immediately. I then let them dry completely. I shook off the excess glitter once I knew they were dry.

While the butterflies were drying I added glitz glue to the edges of the card by painting it on thin.

I added the butterflies with foam tape just in the center of the butterfly then completed it with 4 pearls of various sizes.

Good morning everyone......hope you are surviving the hustle and bustle of the season. With Christmas right around the corner a new year will follow close behind...and with a new year comes new beginnings.

I am joining with a group of fellow CTMH consultants to create a wonderful new challenge blog in February.

Our plan is to offer you up some great scrapbooking and paper crafting techniques and then challenge you to create and share your artwork using these techniques......there will be prizes and awards offered to add some fun to the blog each month as well as great artwork and inspiration for your projects.

Our first challenge for you - "Name that Blog". We're looking for something catchy, easy to remember and unique.......we will choose a name from all the entries and the winner will receive $25 of free product from the soon to be released Spring/Summer 2012 Close To My Heart Ideabook.
